For several years he was on the radio six hours a day and tv two hours a day. From 4-6pm every day Gene Norman was on KLAC radio and KHJ-TV at the same time! The radio show was taped in advance.
"Having nothing else to do," Mr Norman inaugurated his two famous nightclubs - The Crescendo and The Interlude on the Sunset Strip that featured virtually every record and cabaret star of the 50s and 60s, such as Johnny Mathis, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Bob Newhart an Ella Fitzgerald. The typical Crescendo show was Mort Sahl, The Dave Brubeck Quarter, June Christy and the Stan Kenton Band. During all that time he was producing jazz albums, both in clubs and in the studio.
Since the sale of the night-clubs in the mid-60s, he has devoted most of his time to the development of his GNP Crescendo and Creative World record labels and his five publishing companies! His impressive catalogs encompass all types of music - jazz, blues, soundtracks, rock, world, electronic, folk, and science fiction. Several albums have been nominated for or won Grammies. GNP Crescendo continues to produce new artists and promote their deep catalog in the new era, with Mr Norman maintaining a leading role in the business.
